I have started out with PowerJapanese from BayWare Inc. and – although there’s still some work ahead of me – I like the learning format it offers. Still, you need to stick to it and practice regularly/daily! They have software of different levels, from the basic overview (PowerNihongo) to Kanji (Kanji Moments).
